FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator tells me how many lots to trade?

The position size calculator. Enter your account balance, the A$ risk you accept and the stop distance in pips, and it returns a lot size for XAU/USD where one standard lot is 100 oz. It answers the sizing question; the pip value and margin tools answer the cost questions that follow.

What is the difference between the pip value and profit calculators?

The pip value calculator shows what one pip, which is 0.01 in gold, is worth for a given lot size. The profit calculator takes that further and converts an entry-to-exit move, including direction, into an A$ result. Use pip value to sanity-check size, then profit to model the outcome.

How does the margin calculator handle leverage?

It divides the notional value of the position by the leverage cap you enter. At 1:200, a 0.10-lot position needs about $85.50 margin at the reference price of 4275.0. The result is the amount held aside, not a limit on your loss, so pair it with the position size tool.

What do pivot points add that the other tools do not?

Pivot points give you reference levels for the session, calculated from the previous period's high, low and close. They are a structure tool, not a cost tool: they help you place stops and targets, which then feed the position size and profit calculators so the numbers stay tied to a real level.

Do the calculators use live prices or fixed inputs?

They use the inputs you type in, with the reference price shown for context. That means the output is only as current as your entry. If you are working from the live price page, re-enter the current quote before sizing, because a stale price changes the pip value and margin result.
